Grace Community Church Grassie

Grace Community Church Grassie is a Baptist church whose statement of faith is a summary of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. It holds to the five solas of the Reformation, takes the Bible as the inspired, trustworthy and sufficient Word of God and its highest authority, and practises believer's baptism by full immersion and the Lord's Supper as its two ordinances. It is governed on an elder-led congregational model, with the office of elder or pastor reserved to qualified men.

Grace Community Church meets at 504 Mud Street West in Grassie, the small hamlet it describes as nestled on the border of Stoney Creek and Grimsby. It calls itself a Bible-centred church serving Grimsby and Grassie, and is a church plant, the daughter church of The Mill Christian Fellowship in Mississauga. From the Queen Elizabeth Way the church directs visitors up Woolverton Road from the Casablanca exit to Mud Street, then right; the church is just past the railway tracks.

Grace describes its Baptist identity in terms of the authority of Scripture, the autonomy of the local church, the priesthood of the believer and a membership of baptized believers, and says it surrenders its beliefs, leadership and mission to no outside organization. Among its partners it lists SEND Network Canada, which plants churches with the Canadian National Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board, the Canadian National Baptist Convention itself, and Beulah Baptist Church and By The Word Baptist Church. Steve Bainbridge is its lead pastor.

The church gathers once a week, on Sunday afternoon at half past two, and posts its sermons on YouTube. Its ministries include a ladies’ fellowship on Wednesday mornings and a CARE ministry that offers practical help to neighbours in Grimsby and Grassie.

What to expect

The church gathers every Sunday at 2:30 p.m., with fellowship downstairs beforehand; most people arrive between 1:30 and 1:45, and coffee and snacks usually follow the service. There is no dress code. The music mixes instruments and traditional vocals, and the church says it does not sing songs from Hillsong, Bethel or Elevation. Dedicated childcare is not yet offered; services are family-inclusive, with a playpen at the back for small children.
