Trinity United Church

Trinity United Church is a congregation of the United Church of Canada and describes itself as an Affirming Community of Faith. It affirms and embraces diversity and invites full participation by people of any gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, age, race and ethnicity, economic level, and physical and intellectual ability in all aspects of its ministry. It speaks of worship as an expression of a deepening relationship with God: Creator, Jesus, and the Spirit.

Trinity United Church stands on Main Street West. According to the Town of Grimsby’s heritage records, Grimsby’s Presbyterians, organized in the early 1830s, built a brick church on this site, which was replaced in 1889 by a larger church named St. John’s. After church union in 1925 created Trinity United Church, the Main Street church was remodelled for the United Church and a major expansion followed in the 1950s, while 92 members who chose to remain Presbyterian left to build a new church on Mountain Street.

Trinity belongs to the Horseshoe Falls Regional Council of the United Church of Canada. It describes itself as an Affirming Community of Faith, with the motto ‘Opening Minds, Opening Hearts, Opening Doors’ and about 100 households actively involved in its ministries and programs, and it is currently searching for a minister. Its music includes a choir and a handbell ensemble.

Worship is at 10:30 on Sunday morning, in person and on YouTube, except in July. Since June 2024 the building has also been home to St. John’s Presbyterian Church, which worships in Memory Hall, the room Trinity describes as the church’s original worship space; the two congregations share a Godly Play church school during worship from September to June.
