Lakemount Worship Centre

Lakemount Worship Centre is a Pentecostal church in Grimsby, affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. It holds that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, complete and without error and the ultimate authority in faith and Christian living, and that Jesus is the divine Son of God, the only sacrifice for sin, who died, rose again and will one day literally return to the earth. It believes that God still speaks to his children through the Holy Spirit, and it values what it calls the presence of God, made known in tangible ways where he is welcomed in worship and prayer.

Lakemount Worship Centre began in 1964 as a branch work of Vineland Pentecostal Church and was named Grimsby Pentecostal Church on 19 October 1965. From 1966 until 1984 it held summer “drive-in” services on Sunday evenings in plaza parking lots in the town. In 1987 the church bought its property on the North Service Road, easily reached from the QEW; the building was finished in November 1989, and soon afterwards the congregation took the name Lakemount Worship Centre. An expansion from 12,000 to 43,000 square feet opened on 15 September 2013.

The Rev. Matt Tapley has been lead pastor since April 2008, ministering with his wife Lisa, the assistant pastor, and the church says more than 1,500 people now call Lakemount home. It holds two services each Sunday, at nine and half past eleven, and runs ministries for children, students and young adults, life groups, the Alpha course and a prayer ministry, and supports missionaries and partner ministries in Canada and overseas. The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada lists it in its Western Ontario District.

What to expect

The church describes a Sunday as worship through music and song, Bible teaching, and an open invitation to prayer after the message, with a team available to pray with anyone who would like it. People dress as they like, from jeans to their Sunday best, and newcomers are welcome simply to slip in and observe. The Spark Coffee cafe serves free brewed coffee and tea before and after the service, and team members in orange lanyards help visitors find their way.
