Church on Hunter

Church on Hunter is an independent congregation that states no denominational affiliation and holds the Scriptures to be the infallible Word of God. It confesses one God in three persons, and teaches that the initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues and that divine healing is part of the wholeness found in Jesus. It baptizes by total immersion, shares communion with bread and grape juice, and describes its mission as establishing heaven's culture on earth.

Church on Hunter meets at 321 Hunter Road in Grimsby. It began in Stoney Creek in 1981, when Rev. James Thornley and a handful of believers started meeting in a rented room at the Hamilton library, and it was incorporated in 1983 as Restoration Center Church. In 1986 it bought a former school at Barton Street and Glover Road in Stoney Creek, took the name Stoney Creek Christian Fellowship, and in 1990 built a new sanctuary there.

The congregation sold that building in 2014, intending to build again, and now gives its address as 321 Hunter Road in Grimsby. Michael and Janie Thornley have been its senior pastors since 1993, when James Thornley passed the leadership on to his son.

One service is held each Sunday at ten and is livestreamed on YouTube. Locally the church supports City Kidz and the Hamilton Dream Center, two ministries in Hamilton.

What to expect
