Mountainview Christian Reformed Church

Mountainview Christian Reformed Church belongs to the Christian Reformed Church in North America. It describes the Reformed branch of Christianity as emphasizing that God is at work in all of life, that Jesus came to restore every aspect of our world, and that creation is basically good. Its mission is to glorify God in prayer and worship, to grow in relationship with God and each other, and to go out sharing Christ's love in words and actions.

Mountainview Christian Reformed Church is on Main Street East. The congregation explains that its name refers to its setting against the backdrop of the Niagara Escarpment, with views over Lake Ontario, and it describes itself as a local church whose people come from Jordan, Vineland, Beamsville, Smithville, Grassie, Winona and Stoney Creek as well as Grimsby.

It was organized in 1962 and belongs to Classis Niagara of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, whose directory lists 756 members and an attendance of about 300. Erick Schuringa is lead pastor and Jolene Veenstra is pastoral care pastor.

One service is held each Sunday at ten in the morning, in person and online. Alongside it the church runs Kids@Mountainview and student ministries, Cadets and Gems clubs for boys and girls, Coffee Break, Friendship, GriefShare, Alpha, small groups and a summer camp for children.

What to expect

The church calls its services blended worship: traditional hymns and more contemporary songs, all led by the worship team. A service lasts about an hour, opening with a welcome, songs of praise and a time of prayer, followed by a message from one of the pastors and closing songs. People come dressed casually or in business casual; coffee is offered in the foyer's Connections Cafe on arrival, and coffee and cookies are served in the Fellowship Hall afterwards.
